Amazing video Joanna, you are a natural at explaining things in the most basic and thorough way! Are you a teacher of some kind in real life? 🙂
I give geoscience courses and am always on the look out for simpler and more intuitive ways of explaining complex subjects.
Anyway, the barking collar is a great solution! I have a 4.5 month old goldendoodle and always so scared to leave him alone. So far he seems fine when left alone but the potential barking fits are always in the back of my mind.
Cesar Millan is a great advocate of "snapping the brain out of it" which is what the barking collar does. He always refers to "mental states" whether it's scared, playful, aggressive, anxious or "calm-submissive". In his book "how to raise a perfect dog" he explained how one of his puppies had separation anxiety and he would "spy" on the puppy, hiding behind a wall/bush and as soon as he puppy started crying he would make one of his shushing corrections from far away to snap him out of it. He said it took some repetitions but that he managed to have a calm puppy in one morning.
Keep up the good work, always love your very informative, well structured videos! <3
Very helpful tips. I love the idea of sending the snuggle puppy to the breeders and I did not know about the piano music.
Hi Joanna! Thank you for covering such an important topic. Definitely great tips. Whatever we can do to get them out of that so they don’t suffer and neither do we. It’s heartbreaking to see them like that.
