Rand Paul Says Possible Ties Between ‘Green’ Groups And Russia Should Be Investigated
On Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul said that potential ties between Russia and environmental groups should be investigated.
In recent weeks, questions have been raised about possible Russian funding of anti-fossil fuel groups, though the accusation isn’t new.
The Hill notes that two Republican congressman wrote to Treasury Secretary Mnuchin in 2017, and of the letter, “Importantly, their letter connected some of the dots highlighting Russia’s covert efforts to fund various environmental organizations that were trying to limit or end U.S. hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, for shale gas and oil.”
Sen. Paul went on Newsmax TV’s “Chris Salcedo Show” to discuss the matter.
.@RandPaul: “The inflation is a tax for people who say we’re going to give away something for nothing. Nothing is really free is this life.

Paul joked, “Maybe we should get a special prosecutor. Maybe we need to spend about $100 million investigating Putin’s contributions to green — to the green alarmists in our country.”
The senator said it doesn’t even matter if he has any information that these connections might be true.
“I don’t have any information,” Paul admitted. “I don’t know if it’s true, but can you imagine, there’s probably more truth to that than any of the BS they put forward about trying to connect the Russians to the Trump campaign.”
Paul continued to mock Democrats and the establishment media’s obsession with supposed collusion between former President Donald Trump and Russia.
Paul continued, “But yeah, if they are giving to our groups, we ought to know it. If we ought to know — if our left-wing groups that are anti-fossil fuel are being funded by the Russians, we at least ought to know it and it ought to be revealed, and that shouldn’t be too hard to find actually, and gives me another thing to investigate.”

Foreign Agents
On Tuesday, Fox News reported that Republican Rep. Ted Budd introduced legislation that would require American entities that took Russian money to register as foreign agents under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
Of the bill, Budd said:
“The prospect of Russia funneling money to U.S. environmental groups to do Russia’s bidding and actively oppose U.S. energy is a dangerous form of interference in our politics. It is time to shine a light on how and why green energy groups undermine American energy dominance, destroy American jobs, and weaken America on the world stage.”
