DeSantis Rejects Biden Administration Request For National Guard During State Of The Union

Governor Ron DeSantis rejected a request by the Biden administration for members of the Florida National Guard to be deployed to the nation’s capital for the President’s State of the Union address.

DeSantis posted a tweet on Monday indicating the request was made last week.

“Last week, the Biden Administration requested the assistance of State National Guards to deploy to Washington D.C.,” he wrote.

“I have rejected this request — there will be no [Florida National Guard] sent to D.C. for Biden’s State of the Union,” DeSantis added.

DeSantis Says No

DeSantis’ claim that he is rejecting a request to have state National Guard troops serving during the State of the Union address comes as Capitol Police have been fortifying the area in a scene similar to the aftermath of the January 6 riot and Biden’s inauguration.

Officials reinstalled fencing around the U.S. Capitol ahead of Biden’s speech, as American truckers reportedly began their own ‘freedom convoy’ to Washington.

“Steel fencing circles the Capitol once more amid fears that a convoy of US truckers will cause major traffic build up and engage in protests against pandemic restrictions as Biden gives his address,” the Daily Mail reports.

Can’t have freedom-loving truckers become an eyesore for the President.

Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger issued a statement regarding all of the precautions that are being taken.

“In light of the upcoming State of the Union Address, and the possibility of demonstrations in the next couple of weeks a plan has been approved to put up the inner-perimeter fence around the Capitol building for the State of the Union Address,” he said.

The Daily Mail states that Manger put in a request for National Guardsmen as well. Barricades have also been strategically placed to disrupt traffic from the protesters.

After the January 6 riot, the Capitol complex was fortified for months with thousands of National Guard troops, surrounded by razor wire fencing, and locked down with manned checkpoints.

If the scene is duplicated, the National Guard troops won’t be any sent from Florida, if Governor DeSantis has his way.

Fortifying the Capitol

Democrats are clearly playing games yet again at the Capitol, treating the trucker convoy as if they are a threat and need to be restricted from the grounds.

Democratic Representative Ruben Gallego even suggested officials seize trucks involved in the coming protest and sell them.

DeSantis, aside from rejecting efforts to send the Florida National Guard to the Capitol, has been countering Democrats political games rather effectively.

The crowd at the recent Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) cheered when the Republican governor announced a plan to send illegal immigrants to President Biden’s home state of Delaware.

“Since I became governor, we banned sanctuary cities in the state of Florida,” DeSantis announced.

“And we are in the process of getting money from the state legislature so that if Biden is dumping illegal aliens into Florida from the southern border, I’m rerouting them to Delaware.”

As effective as he has been in conveying his platforms, DeSantis still came in a distant second to former President Donald Trump in the CPAC straw poll asking conservatives who they would like to see as the GOP nominee for President in 2024.
