Judge Orders Trump, Don Jr., Ivanka To Testify In NY Case Against Trump Organization

On Tuesday, a New York state judge ruled that former President Donald Trump, his eldest son Don Jr., and daughter Ivanka Trump must testify before New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office to testify in an ongoing investigation into the Trump Organization.

The trio had been subpoenaed, and Judge Arthur Engoron agrees with the AG’s office that they must testify.

The Judge’s Ruling

In his ruling, Judge Engoron wrote,

“In the final analysis, a State Attorney General commences investigating a business entity, uncovers copious evidence of possible financial fraud, and wants to question, under oath, several of the entities’ principals, including its namesake. She has the clear right to do so.”He added, “As has often been said, that a prosecutor dislikes someone does not prevent a prosecution.”

The Judge also rebuffed Trump’s arguments that James’ frequent past political attacks against him were prejudicial.

President Trump has 14 days to comply with the subpoenas. Donald Trump Jr. and his sister Ivanka Trump each have 21 days to sit for depositions.

AG James was pleased with the ruling. In a statement she said,

“Today, justice prevailed. Donald J. Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., and Ivanka Trump have been ordered by the court to comply with our lawful investigation into Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization’s financial dealings. No one will be permitted to stand in the way of the pursuit of justice, no matter how powerful they are. No one is above the law.”

Letitia James History Of Dubious Comments

Letitia James seemingly had her sights set on Donald Trump as her campaign heated up. Trump claimed that James had declared that if she was elected she would “look into ‘every aspect’ of my real estate dealings.”

Trump continued, saying that James had sworn to “definitely sue me,” and that she was on video saying that “…. and I quote, ‘a real pain in the ass.” Trump also said that James promised, “just wait until I’m in the Attorney General’s office,’ and, ‘I’ve got my eyes on Trump Tower.”

Because of these comments, the Trumps allege that James broke Federal Election Commission rules which prohibit campaigning by promising criminal investigations. The Trumps also allege that James referenced the investigation in campaign emails.

Trump lawyer Alina Habba told DailyMail.com that, ‘This is truly prosecutorial misconduct and, in her own words, ‘no one is above the law.’
