Video Shows Democrat DC Council Candidate Carjacked In Broad Daylight

A frightening surveillance video released Tuesday shows a Democrat candidate for Washington D.C. city council being carjacked in broad daylight.

The D.C. Metro Police Department released snippets of the video which shows a gunman leaping out of a passing SUV and pointing a gun at the face of politician Nate Fleming.

Fleming is an attorney running for the D.C. council at-large.

“I’m shocked, angry and a bit embarrassed,” he said. “To be threatened at gunpoint is shocking, but I am not surprised to have been attacked given the crisis we are facing with carjackings and violence in general in our city.”

Fleming added that “increasing public safety” is part of his motivation to run for a council position.

Democrat Candidate Carjacked

It was just a few short months ago that Democrat congresswoman Ilhan Omar was implying that a rise in crime in major cities was due to law enforcement officers ‘not fulfilling their oath.’

By contrast in D.C., Fleming praised police officers who “responded to this incident quickly and professionally.”

The Democrat went on to suggest his carjacking is evidence the city needs to address crime prevention through “stronger community-based policing.”

In a statement released to the press, Fleming points out that “crime rates in DC have skyrocketed over the last year,” something he attributes to an increase in guns throughout the city’s neighborhoods.

Washington, D.C. has extremely strict gun control laws.

Defund The Police!

The carjacking of a Democrat council candidate comes just over a year after that same council advanced a plan to cut the police department budget by $15 million.

“The council, like all Americans, is grappling with undoing centuries of layered and systemic racism and its permutations throughout our society,” member Charles Allen said, according to the Washington Post.

“This budget reflects significant action and aligns with other sweeping reform this committee has undertaken, but it’s also one piece of a movement.”

That attempt at ‘undoing systemic racism’ by defunding the police can now be discussed in the context of Fleming, a black man, having been carjacked in a city where the majority of the victims of crime are African-American.

A Washington Post column in March indicates a commission to “reinvent policing” has some members seeking further cuts to the police department budget.

“Some members of the Police Reform Commission want the D.C. Council to consider cutting the police department’s $500 million budget in half over the next three to five years while reducing the number of officers through attrition,” they report.

A few months later, Mayor Muriel Bowser proposed hiring 170 additional officers to meet the city’s needs as they grapple with rising violent crime rates.

Democratic strategist James Carville blamed far-left progressives and their “defund the police” rhetoric for stunning election defeats across the board in November.

“I mean this ‘defund the police’ lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools, people see that,” Carville said. “And it really has a suppressive effect all across the country on Democrats.”
