‘The View’ Tries To Cover For Justice Sotomayor’s False COVID Claims

Sunny Hostin, co-host of ‘The View,’ defended Justice Sonia Sotomayor for sharing false statistics regarding COVID hospitalizations for children.

Sotomayor made a widely panned false claim about the seriousness of COVID infection in children during oral arguments over the Biden administration’s efforts to mandate vaccines.

“We have over 100,000 children, which we’ve never had before, in serious condition, and many on ventilators” due to the coronavirus, she said.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said the Supreme Court Justice was wrong in an interview with Fox News, pointing out there are currently 3,500 children in the hospital.

According to federal data, there are actually 3,342 children currently hospitalized.

Nevertheless, the left-leaning ‘The View’ went to bat for Sotomayor to try to tamp down the criticism of the left-wing judge.

Sunny Hostin Defends Justice Sotomayor

Despite condemnation for spreading false information, Sotomayor found a defender in Sunny Hostin.

Sure her numbers were inflated by nearly 97%, but Hostin said the Supreme Court Justice came close when one considers the total number of COVID hospitalizations for children since the beginning of the pandemic. Two years ago. And not counting ventilators.

Oh, and the general theme of the number of cases for children is still spot on, according to Hostin, despite there being no numbers to back it up.

“While she [Sotomayor] may not be accurate for current hospitalizations in children, she is correct that we have more children in the hospital now more than ever before,” The View co-host said.

“Right now, we have 82,843 children sick with COVID. More than 1,000 children have died from the virus. In addition, 7.8 million children have caught COVID since the pandemic started,” she continued. 

“So, while fewer than 83,000 kids have been hospitalized with the virus, we have kids sick with COVID more than we ever have before,” Hostin added. “So, that’s a real thing and those are real numbers.”

Sotomayor Fact-Checked

Even left-leaning fact-checking outlets such as Politifact said Justice Sotomayor was providing false information on COVID hospitalizations for children.

“While the number of coronavirus-positive pediatric hospitalizations has risen with the spread of the omicron variant, Sotomayor’s number was way off,” they wrote.

Of Supreme Court Justices fact-checked on the Politifact website, only three others have had to have a comment evaluated – Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Elena Kagan were rated as ‘half-true,’ while Justice Clarence Thomas had a comment rated ‘true.’

Sotomayor now has the unique distinction of spreading blatantly false misinformation from the Supreme Court.

While her comments were criticized by multiple media outlets, there were attempts to simultaneously lump Justice Neil Gorsuch into the fake news train due to a transcription error.

Blue check liberals on social media were equating comments made by Gorsuch on the same day to those made by Sotomayor. They falsely accused him of saying the flu kills “hundreds of thousands” of people.

An updated official transcript revealed he hadn’t said that at all and accurately updated his words from “hundreds of thousands” to “hundreds, thousands.”

Hostin’s defense of Sotomayor for wildly misstating COVID hospitalizations for children may stem from a personal relationship she shares with the Justice.

Hostin in 2020 revealed that Sotomayor had helped with her book, “I Am These Truths,” advising her to publish it in English and Spanish.

“I kinda think when the Justice tells you to do something, you do it!” she said.
