When the fight turns physical (and you didn't do it for strict self defense), yeah — they can, and should, fire you from your job. That's what a respectable business would do, anyway (the same goes for a woman that abuses her husband in such a way).
People that can't control themselves and unleash on their partners like that are the cause of too much suffering in our society. The more coersion we have against it, the better.

You can certainly be fired for domestic violence. The reason he wasn’t banned was that he told them exactly what he did and they didn’t suspend him – they only tried to suspend him when the tape came out. You can’t suspend someone under those circumstances.
