  1. The only reason right-wing media cares about beagles, is to try to damage Fauci, period. They don't care about cruelty. It's very informative of everything wrong with PETA, that they refuse to face and deal with this. PETA is a serious and dedicated group, that shouldn't let themselves be used by the likes of Cucker Tarlson.

The American culture wars aren’t focused on labor vs bosses, the focus is on dividing labor around the tenets of white evangelicism. The right has been trying to conflate “left culture” with the bourgeoisie, which is a bizarre claim to make historically. However, they’ve been mostly successful by using conservative religious values evangelical share with “ethnic” 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants (white working class pigeonholed here but Latinos could be too eventually) and the values of “the old country.”

The line being drawn on culture also tracks with higher education because the higher the level of academic achievement one attains, the more likely they are to reject religious fundamentalism and, ironically, become management. In any case, culture wars are what the right does to divide and conquer

The left’s best bet is to find enough wedge issues that can divide the right, something that cuts right through religious allegiances. That could be class, but class has already been cleaved by the way the right defines culture so it might have to be more subtly fashioned.

  3. I think Amazon is brilliant. It is extremely efficient, and innovative – in a good way. As a customer I have never had a bad customer experience with Amazon. I even sold of my old h/w media, DVDs, CD's, Audiobooks, and that was easy and profitable, all of myself, the customer and Amazon was protected in those transactions … and I was 100% rated.

I am 1000% for Amazon and every other company paying a living wage, or some government compensation system where everyone working gets a basic living wage … along with health care, education, etc. But picking on the best company is ass-backwards. Years ago it was WalMark … and I get they are happy that Amazon is now taking their heat. I agree with DF on most issues, and in fact it's good to hear this viewpoint expressed, because it needs to be – especially in the Red States – but as usually Progressives are not strategic or sensible in what they talk about as their plans. Just another way they shoot themselves in the foot, and hurt my life in the process.

Never understood Feldmans dedication to the democratic party thinking you can change from within.

    “THIRD PARTYS NEVER WORK!”

Who gave us the New Deal? The democratic party? No. It was the communist and social list party.

“Yeah, but where are they now?!?!”

    Easy: unemployment, medicare, social security.

Third parties, not the democratic party, got us those.

    Get it?

And they don't live in Hell, they live in Profitland.

  6. Did Dr. Herschenfeld just kindly put forth might makes right? That we live in a Hobbisan world and humans are just that way? Saddens me.
I must say I feel for Ethan, his father’s shoulder pad 80s leather jacket is far too much to bear.

  7. The "Foxconn ladies" ( https://youtu.be/TGbufFQYOwc?t=2065 ) don't actually exist although it's turned into an urban myth now.

The story was originally a one hour episode of the This American Life podcast where they broke the news about the Foxconn suicides by workers making Apple devices. The story was a complete fabrication by the journalist that they used for that story. They ran another hour long retraction episode where they explained that they were conned by the journalist in question.

  8. The post office gives people that mail media a below cost price as a public service to promote education. Amazon used that to make $ off book sales.
