The Next Season of Bravo’s ‘Top Chef’ Is Filming in Houston
Top Chef, the reality cooking competition that’s turned chefs across the country into celebrities, will officially film its next season in Houston.
Rumors about the upcoming season’s Houston setting have swirled for weeks, after gossipmongers DeuxMoi posted a tip hinting at plans to film the show in Space City to their Instagram account. That rumor was officially confirmed today via a press release, alongside the announcement that the show’s 19th season will premiere on Bravo sometime in 2022.
As fans may remember, two Houston chefs competed on the last season of Top Chef, filmed in Portland. Former Rosalie chef Sasha Grumman was eliminated from the competition early, but chef Dawn Burrell made it all the way to the finale. That was, of course, before the season was mired in controversy after allegations that Gabe Erales, season eighteen’s winner, had engaged in inappropriate conduct while helming his Austin restaurant. In addition to those allegations came claims that Magical Elves, the production company that produces Bravo, was aware of the misconduct.
As for the next season, Burrell will make a comeback as a “Top Chef All-Star,” who will “lend guidance and expertise” to the contestants among other previous competitors.
“I cannot think of a more perfect pairing than Top Chef and the city of Houston. Both represent a celebration of cuisine, culture and innovation,” Houston mayor Sylvester Turner said in a statement. “We are proud of the diverse community and unique heritage that makes our city such a hot culinary destination.”
